Giffard Controls designs and manufactures PRDS skids - Pressure Reducing Cum Desuperheating Stations - that convert high-pressure, superheated steam into process steam at a controlled lower pressure and temperature. Each Giffard Controls PRDS system brings together pressure reduction, desuperheating, instrumentation, control and interconnecting piping within a coordinated, factory-assembled package.
Every Giffard Controls PRDS skid is engineered around the actual inlet and outlet conditions, minimum and maximum steam flow, required turndown, spray-water availability, materials of construction and plant operating philosophy. This application-specific approach supports stable steam quality, protects downstream equipment and helps maintain efficient, reliable plant operation.
High-pressure steam first passes through a Giffard Controls pressure-reducing valve or steam conditioning valve. The pressure-reducing trim controls the pressure drop - frequently in stages for severe duties - while a pressure transmitter and controller modulate the valve to maintain the required downstream set point.
Cooling water is then introduced through a Giffard Controls desuperheating arrangement at a carefully selected point of high steam velocity and turbulence. The water is atomised into fine droplets, rapidly evaporates into the steam and lowers its temperature to the specified outlet condition. A downstream temperature transmitter regulates the spray-water control valve, enabling the Giffard Controls PRDS system to respond accurately to changes in steam demand.
Depending on the duty, Giffard Controls can configure the PRDS station with a separate pressure-reducing valve and desuperheater or with an integrated steam conditioning valve. Nozzle selection, pressure staging, mixing length, drainage, instrumentation and control logic are all matched to the application.

Giffard Controls PRDS systems are used wherever steam must be supplied at a lower pressure and precisely controlled temperature. Typical duties include turbine bypass, boiler start-up and shutdown, process steam headers, auxiliary steam systems, deaerator pegging, ejector and gland-sealing services, heat exchangers, evaporators, dryers, reboilers and plant steam distribution.
Giffard Controls PRDS skids serve power generation, oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, chemical, sugar, paper, steel, food processing, pharmaceutical and other process industries.
Giffard Controls combines practical steam-conditioning expertise, robust engineering and project-specific design to deliver PRDS skids that perform reliably under demanding operating conditions. From initial sizing and control philosophy through detailed engineering, fabrication, factory testing, documentation, shipment and commissioning support, Giffard Controls provides a coordinated solution centred on plant reliability and lifecycle value.
The principal Giffard Controls manufacturing facility in India is supported by advanced design, engineering and testing capabilities. Backed by engineers and professionals with more than 200 years of combined experience, Giffard Controls develops practical and dependable PRDS solutions for complex industrial duties. Manufacturing capability in Germany is also available for projects requiring German-origin supply. Giffard Controls PRDS systems can be engineered to applicable ASME, ANSI, EN and PED requirements, subject to the project specification.
